There’s not always enough time in the day to skim a lengthy, re-worded press release that’s been stamped with “breaking” or “exclusive.” And some stories don’t warrant an entire page of prose. Each week we’ll gather the most important tidbits of Dallas food news and post them here, on SideDish. Because sometimes all you need is the scoop.

Royal Blue Grocery is now open in Highland Park Village: The Austin-based market is now open in the space previously occupied by Tom Thumb. The 6,000-square-foot store offers a variety of gourmet specialty goods as well as everyday household brand name items. Hungry shoppers can nosh on a variety of grab-and-go meals that are available in the café for breakfast, lunch and dinner. While the market has moved into the Tom Thumb space, don’t expect a full-fledged grocery store, Royal Blue is more specialized like an oversized and curated bodega. Royal Blue Grocery is located at 1 Highland Park Village and is open daily from 7 a.m. until midnight.

Blind Butcher offers lunch: Expect a variety of new sandwiches during this popular Lower Greenville restaurant’s lunch service. According to their Facebook page lunch is now available every Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m.

Hopdoddy offers poutine burger: Oh, just some house-cut, triple-blanched Kennebec fries smothered in gravy and topped with cheddar cheese and caramelized onions on top of a beef patty. The Canadian-inspired monstrosity is available until November 15.

Biergarten in now open: The German food restaurant and beer garden opened yesterday at the Omni Hotel. The menu offers a selection of brats, sandwiches, sauerkraut, potato salad, and of course, a burger (this is Dallas, after all). And the draft beer selection highlights a range of German-style brews. The concept is from restaurateur Joseph Palladino (Coal Vines, Nick & Sam’s, Nick & Sam’s Grill (the Uptown location recently closed)). Keep an eye on SideDish for an official look inside the space. Biergarten is located at 665 S. Lamar St.
