Sugar Skull Cafe quietly opened in Trinity Groves last weekend, and will celebrate its grand opening this Monday.
“[Sugar Skull] is a place where people can have great food and cocktails, and not spend a ton of money,” owner Jonn Baudoin (Casa Rubia and Driftwood) explained. The menu at Baudoin’s fast-casual taco restaurant and coffee bar offers breakfast tacos and plates, signature tacos, street-style tacos, and appetizers such as queso fundido and elotes. “Chef Ricardo Ledezma keeps [the food] traditional, but incorporates flare,” Baudoin continued.
The restaurant also doubles as a coffee shop. “Coffee has always been a passion of mine,” Baudoin said, “we get our beans from Ascension, they made a special roast for us… it’s called ‘The Sugar Skull.'” They also carry Ascension’s espresso beans.
To keep things fast (and casual), the bar offers a variety of beer, and frozen margaritas. No craft cocktails here.
Sugar Skull Cafe is currently only open for breakfast and lunch, but will offer dinner starting Monday. Full hours are Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. until 10:30 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m.
