I know that I’m telling you about these events at the eleventh hour, but it’s President’s Day, and you’re not really doing anything anyways (unless you work at D). Here are two intelligent food events to help understand what you’re eating and why you’re eating it:
1. A Conversation with Dallas Chefs and Their Produce Partners
“The Dallas Metro Fresh Food Alliance will be talking with Chef Graham Dodds (Central 214) and Chef Patrick Stark (Sundown at Granada), who are both committed to featuring the best local produce on their menus. They will be joined by two of their local food vendors: Brandon Pollard (Texas Honeybee Guild) and Shane Lovell (FreshPoint), who will discuss the importance of developing and maintaining a healthy local food system.” (via Facebook)

2. American Meat – Free Screening at SMU
“Come watch a free screening of an important film called American Meat, presented by SMU Students for a Better Society and Chipotle Mexican Grill. American Meat is a pro-farmer look at chicken, hog and cattle production in America.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion including the director of the film; Graham Meriweather, Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance executive director, attorney, agtivist, sustainable farmer – Judith McGeary; local ranchers and owners of Burgandy Pastured Beef, Jon & Wendy Taggart; Jean Kazez, who has taught a popular course on animal rights at SMU for the last 10 years and is the author of Animalkind: What We Owe to Animals; Claire Cummings West Coast fellow for Bon Appétit Management Company Foundation and Taylor Henry, an undergraduate student at SMU.
The event begins at 7:30 with a meet and greet, followed by screening at 8pm. Panel discussion begins immediately following the film
