It’s Friday! That means it’s time to hear from my dear friend, ID Collection’s Jim Williamson. I had to get some work done last night, so I had to cancel my dinner plans—which, at that point, had been on-again, off-again three times before lunch. But that’s just how it happens sometimes when dealing with the movers and shakers. In fact, this entire week was one big schedule change—I never knew what to expect or when. I’ve found it’s sometimes best to just go with the flow—or if you prefer, go where the wind blows. (Let’s just hope that blowing wind didn’t have broccoli for dinner.)
Anyway, I got some of my work done, but I took time out to read about the woman who passed away—possibly, in part due to her two-gallon-a-day soda habit. I also read a piece debating over whether LiLo had overly filled her face and lips, which could possibly lose her that Lifetime role. Personally, I haven’t had a soda in years but just the thought makes me want to go look for a bottle of TUMS. If I’m going to pass away from something, it better be from too much cheese toast.
I’ve been helping a client who wants an old English look. No, not from the 1900s. (I’m dying to do a Downton Abbey.) More like the 1990s. I know fashion is taking some cues from the ’90s, but trust me, it wasn’t easy trying to please this client. First of all, the English don’t even do that look anymore. Nor do the Italians, the Germans, or the French. Every time I would find a fabric that would work, it turned out it was either discontinued or limited stock. You never really want to design a home around a limited stock fabric because “limited” means limited. It’s kind of like when I asked, “Would you mind moving that commode to the other wall under that mirror?” The response: “Sir, we do moving not plumbing. If you want that commode moved you will need to call a professional.” Limits aren’t good.
What isn’t limited? Alll the amazing leathers from Cortina, makers of gorgeous Italian leathers for many years. If you’ve eaten in a restaurant, visited a resort, or flown on a plane, chances are your rear has enjoyed some Cortina. It’s amazing what they can do with leather– from finishes, to textures, to colors. You want it? Chances are, they got it. And they get it. We love that.
And you know how I get distracted by shiny things? That brings us to today’s image. Through magical and technical processes I won’t go into, metal foil is applied and adheres to the leather, giving it a durable finish while still maintaining the softness and flexibility of the leather. The leather is deeply embossed with a hornback pattern, which looks exactly like an American gator. Well, more like a Michael Kors gator getting on a flight from Vegas—but still, that is one chic gator.
So that about wraps another week of moving, shaking, and Hornback making. I’m off to a private dinner with some DJs. It won’t be a quiet evening. I’ll fill you in next week. Until then, happy Friday!
