Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings: 2014 will no doubt be a memorable year for Jones and company. Jones herself announced her victory over cancer earlier this year, much to the delight of fans everywhere. The band’s following effort, Give the People What They Want, was an immediate crowd favorite. The band’s insistence on preserving the rich sound of 70s funk and soul has remained consistent, and Jones powerful vocals are relentless. They’ll be the guests of The Granada tonight, with blues singer Valerie June supporting. The show is, however, sold out.

As we mentioned earlier in the week, you can see a Dap Kings DJ set at Good Records, with Dallas resident Gabe Mendoza opening. The free show is at 5:30.

Lil Debbie will be playing Plush tonight; those who missed her first much-discussed foray to Dallas last September should take note.

Sealion and Ken South Rock will be playing The Double Wide, with Loafers supporting.

For the late night crowd, DJ Sober’s The Basement will continue at The Travis; Colly T’s “VIBE” will be at The Beauty Bar, along with Shuttle as his guest. Brent Nuro is Wanz Dover’s guest at Crown and Harp’s “Lost Generation.” Yeah Def’s millenium-themed event, “Y2K,” will be at Hailey’s.
