Peter Pan’s House In Weatherford

The house that Peter Pan built.

The House of Peter Pan

When Jeff Carr was a little boy, he spent his summer days swimming, splashing, and dreaming of living, one day, in Peter Pan’s house. We’d always have to drive down Davis Street to the municipal pool, so we’d pass this big, grand house, he recalls. Everyone knew that’s where Peter Pan lived. Not the ageless sprite, of course, but popular actress Mary Martin who played Peter Pan on Broadway. Mary’s family moved into the Weatherford home, which was originally built by the Davis family in 1918, when she was a small child. Decades later, Jeff along with partner Richard Bettinger realized his dream. The house is now outfitted with antiques, flea-market finds, and more contemporary pieces from David Sutherland’s showroom, where Richard works. But the most popular room is Mary Martin’s bedroom, which Jeff and Richard have lovingly restored with memorabilia and soft, gentle touches of Mary’s life. This house is still as perfect in my mind now as when I was a child, Jeff says. It’s just this big, wonderful house full of memories. And I get to live here. Peter Pan would be proud.
