DALLAS City of Winners

|

It is exactly one mile 385 yards from the Dallas City Hall to the middle of the Houston Street bridge across the Trinity River. These White Rock Marathoners therefore still have twenty-five miles to go before reaching the finish line back where they started.

This watercolor of the Dallas skyline captures the true image of Dallas the city as thoroughly as any one painting possibly could. It reminds us first of all that in addition to one of the nation’s most beautiful skylines, Dallas is still primarily people – not glass, concrete, aluminum and bricks.

It speaks of courage, independence, self-reliance and determination – all characteristics of the successful distance runner and all attributes which have played important roles in the building of our city.

It shows people in good health, displaying the self-discipline and perseverance which must be present in any competitor who even entertains hopes of finishing the race.

It symbolizes the exciting blending of friendship and fellowship with the fierce fires of competitive zeal, both present in the attitudes and lifestyles of the successful business, athletic, civic, educational and political leaders of Dallas.

Finally, it exemplifies the true spirit of the real winners in life, those dedicated to the stretching of their own personalities and accomplishments. We feel that the men and women of Safeco Land Title Company of Dallas certainly belong in this category. They are the ones responsible for our success and phenomenal growth in only five short years.

There are no losere in the marathon. Anyone with enough determination and stamina even to attempt twenty-six miles 385 yards is a winner in his own mind. And that’s where it counts.
