Give the man what he wants: song suggestions.

Devotees of the tao of Oprah must being going nuts right now at Oprah’s Lifeclass. It’s the kickoff event of Bishop T.D. Jakes’ MegaFest conference, which will continue into the weekend.

Tonight, there is music, music, music. The rapper Kool Keith has a show at Club Dada, and KXT host and musician Paul Slavens brings his signature style to Bryan Street Tavern. FrontRow’s Christopher Mosley recently interviewed Slavens about his work in public radio ahead of his nine-year anniversary show in Denton a couple weeks ago, but this evening’s concert plays to his remarkable vaudevillian talent as an improvisational performer. For those who have never experienced his act, he makes up ditties on the fly based on subjects submitted by the audience. A good crowd is crucial for this to work well, obviously. There’s no cover, since you tip for the songs, and Bryan Street offers $2 wells all day today. Also, arrive early and get pizza. You will not regret it.

Also this evening, the monthly DJ series Decks in the Park returns with a very familiar face. DJ Blake Ward spins in Klyde Warren Park with DJs Wish FM, Tyrone Smiley, Jose G, and DVDJ Washington. You can bring yourself a picnic, provided slapping together a sandwich is within your wheelhouse, or you can take advantage of food trucks. You can also buy beer and wine and all that jazz. The tunes, as usual, are free. You can get a sense of Ward’s style via this profile the wonderful Michelle Ofiwe wrote over on FrontRow.
