Mesquite Man Catches World Record Shark

|

An alert FrontBurnervian points us to this story about Mesquite’s own Jason Johnston, who caught an 11-foot-long, 1,323-pound mako shark off the southern California coast. Johnston has a dramatic flair. He told a TV reporter: “It’s unreal. This thing is definitely a killing machine. Any wrong step, I could have gone out of the boat and down to the bottom of the ocean.” If I’ve learned anything from watching Shark Week, it’s that humans, as a species, haven’t done sharks any favors. Unless I’m mistaken, makos are endangered. So congrats to Johnston. I guess.
