DALLAS City of Winners THANK YOU, DALLAS

|

On a cold, wintry Saturday morning in February 1978, Don Mitchell received a phone call from Dan Petty, then ’ president of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce.

“We have some people in town who need assistance,” announced Dan. “They are with a California film production company named Lorimar. They’re doing a pilot series for CBS television and need someone to help them find filming locations. You know your way around town as well as anyone I know. Can you show them around a little?”

Within hours, Mitchell slid on icy streets into the motel of Leonard Katzman, executive producer, and his assistant Wayne Farlow. The adventure that was to become the world’s most closely followed television drama was under way. During the next few weeks, Katzman and Mitchell were practically inseparable as one filming location after another, both interior and exterior, took shape in their minds. Their friendship became the first of many bridges of warmth and affection which the series has created between California and Texas.

Since then, usually in the heat of summer, Dallas has become a second home for the indomitable cast and crew of on both sides of the camera, all of whom join in gratitude for all the open doors and open hearts . which they have experienced in Texas.
