THUMB AWARD A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Waste

Thumbs up to (he scores of Dallas-area citizens who pledged their support to the United Negro College Fund during the group’s annual telethon aired on Channel 11, December 27. Manned locally by public television news producer and host Bob Ray Sanders, the fund was enriched by some $210,000 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area alone, an increase of more than $30,000 over the 1985 campaign. There are forty-three colleges and universities across the U.S. that receive aid from the UNCH, but for one local institution-Oak Cliffs embattled Bishop College-the added revenues (estimated at between $400,000 and $500,000 this year) couldn’t come at a better time.
