Re: Pride

|

Another Charley Pride tidbit, from a good-memory-having FBvian:

BTW, Charley P also came to the rescue of the very first Cattle Barons Ball in the early 70’s.  It was a relatively small gathering at the Wynne’s ranch with a very small, local band with so-so acoustics playing equally so-so music.  Everyone was having a good time, but nothing over the top. Then a man jumped up on stage, took the mike and the dancing and partying ramped up to stellar.  Needless to say, the man was Charley. He truly made the difference that night, too.

As it happens, I saved the most recent Cattle Barons Ball with a combination of handsomeness, true grit, tough love, and a 15-minute version of John Parr’s “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion).”
