While the Manhattan does not have quite the illustrious pedigree of the martini, this marriage of vermouth to whiskey, attended by cherries, deserves reverence from any student of the libatory arts. You’d think it’s ok of those drinks that’s pretty hard to mess up, and you’ll he right in most places. We eujoyed the version at Cershwin’s Bar & Grill, where the savvy bartenders aim to phase. Down the scale a bit, we found an estimable Manhattan at Schooner’s, a favorite neighborhood bar.
