NEIGHBORS A GO-GO

|

On the bottom of today’s Business section, the DMN toots their own horn about the launch of Neighborsgo. Fair enough, I guess. Managing editor Oscar Martinez called it “a very local newsy version of MySpace” (nice call Tim), while writer Andrew Smith felt compelled to explain the site’s inner workings to the technologically illiterate thusly: “Site users can search for the community news they want to read — perhaps news and discussions related to Frisco schools — and the computer will automatically provide it for them.” That’s one smart computer. Also notable about the story is that it jumps next to a story about the decline in newspapers’ circulation over the past six months (DMN was down 14 percent). Can the computer say “irony”?

(BTW, Nancy, Smith claims Neighborsgo can hook you up with “someone nearby who shares your love of birding.” If you’re into that kind of thing.)
