RE: MEXICO LIQUIDS

|

An advertising and marketing guru from FB Nation says our soft-drink thirsty neighbors to the south also enjoy munchies:

Mexicans also have the world’s highest per capita rate of consumption of snack foods. Pepsi and Doritos just sort of go together.

This is from a report in 2004: ‘PepsiCo arrived here in 1967 when it acquired Sabritas, a Mexico City maker of snack foods. Back then, it was a $16 million business with 100 delivery routes, nearly half of them via bicycle. Today, the company racks up $1.8 billion in sales, boasts 12,000 delivery routes, and sells 100 million bags of snacks per week.’

Now 100 million bags a week (small, lunch size bags, but still) is pretty impressive in a country with a population of 90 million people. And that’s just Sabritas. Bimbo. the gigantic Mexican baker (presently a client) also offers a full line of snack foods in addition to its baked goods. It’s going head to head with Sabritas and has plan to pass them in snack food sales within five years. And there are dozens of smaller manufacturers in the mix.
