LETTERS TO THE EDITORS OF OTHER MAGAZINES

|

I know this is Adam’s turf. Adam’s busy putting out a magazine (and those who saw the inaugural issue, in May, will agree that it’s a fine one). Editor & Publisher runs a letter from our own Curtis Ippolito, staff writer at People Newspapers:

I completely agree with Mr. Hollander and his assessment of the Pulitzer. Although I am a greenhorn writer, I have long wondered why the emphasis is put on the agency or the publication when awarding Pulitzers, and not on the artist. In several online reports Monday, the writer/photographer was not even mentioned, just their respective publication. In the spirit of the Pulitzer Prize, I think all attention should go to the artist.

Which leads me to another question: Is the prize money awarded to the writer/photographer, or the publication? I would suspect the publication. Also, is there anything the individual winner gets besides his name listed underneath the name of his/her publication? A trophy, plaque, anything?
