There are a few vacation destinations on my ever-growing bucket list that offer up a little extra motivation to make it through a long week. At the very top is Costa Rica. Picturing myself sitting on a beach with a Piña-Colada in hand can brighten up my blandest days. While browsing Airbnb listings and plotting my escape into paradise, one listing in particular, Montaña Paraíso, a Costa Rican paradise home built by Dallas couple Paul and Sarah Beauregard, gave me serious heart eyes.

Located in Costa Rica’s Costa Ballena (dubbed “The Whale Coast” due to the presence of the migrating mammals), and built on the private mountain of Montaña Paraíso, the home is surrounded by 350-plus acres of lush jungle. According to Sarah, it sits eye-level with birds and monkeys that pass by in the trees, making for a truly immersive Costa Rican experience. Inside, strategically placed windows and an open-floor plan invite the beauty of the jungle in, while hand-crafted furniture and natural design elements compliment the surrounding landscape. The Beauregards were adamant to use natural materials like teak, stone, and bamboo in the construction of the home. They even enlisted a local woodcrafter to create more than 40 custom teak pieces.

So, you’ve found your dream vacation home in Costa Rica—now what? The Beauregards have that covered, too. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by Adolfo, a guest host who can show you the ins and outs of the property, as well book excursions, including rafting, horseback riding, scuba diving, and dolphin watching. “We always recommend the ziplining since it’s 3 kilometers away from us. With a private road to the home right off the main highway, it’s so easy to get anywhere,” says Sarah. “Also, nature tours guarantee monkey and exotic animal sightings.”

And though the Beauregards have made all the necessary accommodations for guests to explore the area, the home was designed to allow an immerse Costa Rican experience from the comfort of your couch (or indoor rain shower). “It sounds so small, but our favorite spot is the palapas rancho by the pool. It has an L-shaped couch, a hammock chair, a built-in Yeti cooler and and string lights,” says Sarah. “We jump out of the pool and have lunch in there, or watch the sun set. It’s also right next to the tree that we built everything around. Every bird comes to this tree daily — parrots, toucans, and a hawk.”

You’ll need to get your eyes on the photos to truly capture the majesty of the Beauregards’ home. For that, we’ve got you covered.
