You may be familiar with Babe Laufenberg’s voice–maybe his face, but I bet you’re not familiar with his workout regime.  The former Dallas Cowboy currently takes a seat on the sideline as an analyst for the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network – a gig he has been at for twenty years. When he isn’t spending every Sunday talking football, Babe spends his time staying active and healthy. We caught up with him to see what he is eating for breakfast and what his workout schedule is like during the off-season.

If you’ve got only 20 minutes to work out, what’s your routine?
Core work on the exercise ball.

What’s your typical daily workout routine?
In a perfect world, 30-minute stretch and core work, one hour of weights, 30 minutes on the elliptical and a 30 minute lap swim.  Working out is good for the body, but frees the mind!

What’s your usual breakfast?
Coffee, coffee, and more coffee. Plus oatmeal, a banana or muffin (I’m a sucker for baked goods) and Greek yogurt has also become a staple.

What is your go-to cheat meal?

Little known fact.  Brad Sham brings me cookies at half time of Cowboys games. A big part of why we get along so well!

Name a song from your workout playlist.
Bob Dylan.  “Tangled Up In Blue.”  Must admit, have a lot of Dylan in the playlist (much to the chagrin of the people around me).

How would you define being “healthy” and “fit”?
I am not re-inventing the wheel here.  Stay away from diet fads.  Stay away from fatty and fried foods.  Try to exercise every day.  Healthful eaters know what they are going to eat the day before they eat it.  Here is a simple, but tried and true diet:  eat less and move more.
