Max Scherzer cruised in his second Rangers start, but it was tougher sledding for the Wings in a 20-point loss to the defending champion Aces. As for the Cowboys’ first preseason game, I’ve got two words for you: Deuce Vaughn. The pint-size running back dazzled in his debut, and Ben Swanger has plenty more on why the two-time All-American at Kansas State matters beyond being a feel-good story.
Here’s what I’m watching this week:
Saturday, 8/14—Rangers versus Brewers—3:05 p.m., FS1
This is the middle game in a three-game series between first-place teams, and it’s the next chance to see Dane Dunning, who is coming off a career-high 12 strikeouts in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to San Francisco. Can the Rangers’ offense do its part and supply some run support on Saturday?
Saturday, 8/19—Cowboys at Seahawks—9 p.m., CBS
Vaughn did his part to liven up a mostly dull game—which, of course, is the most common sort of preseason game. Will we see any more of the starters against Seattle? Absent that, will any of the backup offensive linemen acquit themselves any better after looking overwhelmed against Jacksonville?
