The Mavericks won their pendulum game—and lost the next three to effectively end their season. The Stars didn’t fare much better, getting smoked 5-2 by defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado in a possible playoff preview. But all is well on the diamond, where the Rangers swept the NL champion Philadelphia Phillies to open the 2023 MLB season.
Here’s what I’m watching this week:
Monday, 4/3—Orioles at Rangers—7:10, Bally Sports Southwest
It could not be going any better for the Rangers, who are undefeated, scored the second-most runs in history through their first two games, and are already turning last season’s horrific record in one-run games on its head. Will they keep the party going in the series opener against Baltimore?
Monday, 4/3—NCAA Men’s Tournament Championship: UConn versus San Diego State—CBS, 8:20 p.m.
It’s the championship matchup that absolutely no one saw coming, which sounds pretty similar to how the Huskies won their last championship as a seven seed back in 2014. Will the blue blood claim its fifth NCAA title, or will San Diego State complete one of the most shocking runs in tournament history?
Sunday, 4/9—Spurs at Mavericks—2:30 p.m., Bally Sports Southwest
For those still holding out hope that the Mavs can sneak into the play-in round, here’s the math to keep track of:
But for Zac Crain and everyone else who has come to terms with how this feels destined to end, you can expect an exhausting season to finally draw to a close against San Antonio.
