What I’m Watching: The Stars Versus the Beast in the East

Plus: Kyrie's first home game, and a chance for TCU men's basketball to get back on track.

Jamie Benn played his 1,000th NHL game, and he wasn’t the only Dallas Star to earn a milestone that night. It was a much quieter week for the Mavericks, however, who stood pat at the trade deadline after their big move for Kyrie Irving last Sunday. And in what’s probably the best moment of all for Dallas sports fans, the Eagles lost an all-timer of a Super Bowl. (Dan Morse has more about the lessons the Cowboys can take from both teams.)

Here’s what I’m watching this week:

Monday, 2/13—Mavericks versus Timberwolves7:30 p.m., Bally Sports Southwest

It’s Kyrie Irving’s first home game in Dallas and his second game playing alongside Luka Doncic. Which, if you’re wondering what that might look like as the pair acclimates to life together, give Jake Kemp a few minutes of your time.

Tuesday, 2/14—Bruins at Stars7:30 p.m., Bally Sports Southwest

The Stars took on the Metropolitan-leading Hurricanes just prior to the NHL All-Star break. Now, not too long after it, they’ll get a crack at the Atlantic-leading Bruins, who double as the NHL’s best team. Priority No. 1 for pulling the upset is slowing down David Pastrnak, who is second in the league with 38 goals scored.

Wednesday, 2/15—No. 22 TCU men’s basketball at No. 19 Iowa State8 p.m., ESPN U

Three consecutive losses have plummeted the Horned Frogs to the bottom half of the Big 12 standings, but there’s still to right the ship before March Madness. A win over the Cyclones in Ames would go a long way toward re-establishing momentum.
