Winners

David Brown
What a year for the Dallas police chief. In the spring, police unions were calling for him to resign. Then he was praised by seemingly the entire nation for his performance in the wake of the July 7 shootings. Despite the recent brouhaha over how fast the city should be hiring hundreds of new officers, Brown’s surprise retirement announcement this week, feels like he’s pulling a Costanza by leaving on a high note. +549

A white teacher at Bell Manor Elementary apparently nicknamed her class the “jighaboos,” a term I’d never before heard but which is a derogatory term for black people. The teacher says she was ignorant of the term’s meaning. In which case, why was she using it at all? -400

for what he did to Tony Romo?

Tony Romo
I noted last week that his preseason injury hadn’t yet ruled him out for the season, and that remains technically true. However, last weekend the Dallas Cowboys announced their QB1 has a broken bone in his back that will keep him out of action for 6-10 weeks. -4

Michael J. Mooney
The erstwhile D Magazine staff writer lands his first Texas Monthly cover story and will forever after be known far and wide as the man who cursed the Cowboys’ 2016 season. -9
