07covv17The Cowboys will bring in free agent rookie defensive end Michael Sam for a physical Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. If all goes as expected, Sam will be signed to the team’s practice squad, Schefter reports.

Sam—the first openly gay player to be drafted by an NFL team—was cut by the St. Louis Rams last month. Earlier today, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wouldn’t speculate about Sam’s possible future with the team.

“I don’t want to talk about available players,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan. “Not necessarily a player, but just available players. It’s not good strategy. We’ve got competition out here. We’ve got a lot of reasons for not talking about maybes.”
