Things to Do in Dallas This Weekend: Oct. 29-31

|

Oh readers. How I would like to deliver a swift kick to Buster Posey’s generously proportioned teeth. What self-respecting adult human goes by that name? May he be drawn and quartered, and may the resulting stumps burst into pillars of everlasting flame.

Anyway! It’s Halloween weekend in Dallas, and I’ve found plenty of great distractions for you. Jump and learn.

Tonight

I’ve been waiting two whole months to say this: go see the DSO play Psycho at the Meyerson. Or … or, go see Beetlejuice at the Turner House.

If you’re among the Halloween haters out there, A) I have no use for you and B) your best bets for entertainment are the VISTAS Latin Film Festival or Anna Bolena, which opens tonight at the Winspear Opera House.

Saturday

Have you ever read “The Golem?” If the answer is no, it’s time to get acquainted with it. Go see/hear Undermain Theatre’s rendition at the Dallas Museum of Art.

Start your evening with the Day of the Dead sangria celebration in Lakewood. Man, I love sangria. You’ll probably find me giggling, and possibly dancing, somewhere near the mariachi band. Stop by and say hi, but please don’t tip me over.

Since you’ll be in the area, why not check out Lakewood Bar & Grill’s party and costume competition. D’s own Tom Earnshaw will be judging the contest, so be sure to give him a high-five.

Sunday

Sunday’s a rather huge day for the Dallas Arts District, so you’d better be there. Among the highlights: the One Arts Plaza block party, a costume-design workshop, and a talk by Regina Taylor, author of The Trinity River Plays, which open Nov. 6 at the Wyly Theatre.

The rest of the night’s reserved for two things: Halloween and the Texas Rangers. Make the most of both.

Browse these other things to do in Dallas, and have a great weekend.
