Last night, 210 people were seated at a long community table that serpentined through the grassland outside of the Trinity River Audubon Center. The occasion was the Songbird Supper fundraiser for the TRAC. They use the proceeds from the event to fund their extensive educational programs that introduce more than 20,000 students a year to the wonders of nature.

Most of the people I talked to were at the TRAC for their first time. They bought tickets to eat Sharon Hage’s cooking. Hage didn’t disappoint. The meal, served family style, included waygu beef from Rosewood Ranches, rosemary chicken from Windy Meadows, beets with black olives, braised greens, butternut and pomegranate slaw, cornbread dressing, and a sumptuous compote of fall fruit.

Post-dinner, TRAC director Ben Jones led a candle-lit owl prowl through the dark forest. If you haven’t been to TRAC, check out the fabulous activities they offer. Also, save the date (May7)  for their popular Scissor-tails and Cocktails event.
