five questions — sara hignite

Do you ever get a bit of a girl crush?  Perhaps at a playdate or a PTA meeting, when you spot a chic mama across the room and then proceed to obsess about her killer necklace (shoes, bag, etc…) for the rest of the event?

That’s what happened to me the first time I met Sara at a neighborhood gathering.  I was instantly struck by how, well…completely cool she was.  But her coolness went (far) beyond her innate (and enviable) fashion sense.  After chatting her up, I also realized she was smart and passionate and animated.

Since that time, Sara and I have developed a strong friendship that I’m truly grateful for.  She inspires in her career as the Registrar at SMU’s Meadows Museum, in her creative pursuits and as a thoughtful, soulful mama to her four-year old daughter Ava.

Given how fond I am of her, I thought you guys should meet her too… So without further ado, a peek into Sara’s world.  Enjoy and have a fantastic weekend!

On heavy rotation— Belle and Sebastian (my daughter is loving them these days); Black Lipstick; and The Ponys

On your nightstandTen Walks, Two Talks by Jon Cotner and Andy Fitch; several back issues of The New Yorker – I am always behind on those!

Go-to outfit— For work: black Edun shirtdress over skinny black pants, Laura Lombardi triangle necklace, a red studded belt from Anthropologie, and black heels (or Matt Bernson bronze flats if I’m going to be running around the galleries).
For play: White Loomstate tunic, skinny jeans, that Laura Lombardi necklace again (creeps up regularly!), and dark green suede J. Crew wedges.

Always in your handbag— Burt’s Bees lip balm, Aveda Hand Relief, Pixi Eye Bright kit (instantly hides those perpetual motherhood-induced dark circles), cell phone, Matt and Nat vegan metallic gray wallet, and cheap Target sunglasses (I’m the gal who literally drops her just-purchased sunglasses, lenses down, in the parking lot outside the shop…so, I have to be realistic!).

No-brainer restaurant— Snappy Salads for a quick, healthy weekend lunch with the family. Penne Pomodoro is a must for my carb-loving kiddo. Tillman’s Roadhouse, for those ridiculous table-side S’mores. Yum.
