Open Call For Mayflowers: Homeland Security wants your floral art. There’s more info here. You have until May 3. Consider this my entry:

THURSDAY

“Perishable, She Was Long Gone, Compliance” at Deep Ellum Windows – April 4: 7-10 p.m. 2646 Main St 2625 Main St. 2650B Main St. Dallas, TX 75226.

This block long stretch of Deep Ellum is quickly becoming a regular venue, which is one of those deals that makes artists and developers happy enough (the former for the space, the later for the foot traffic, and swelling value that comes with it). This latest crop of shows features yet another Kevin Ruben Jacobs project, this one with support from 303 Gallery in New York, presenting a sound installation by Kristin Oppenheim. A second show features three artists from three cities: Pierre Krause (Dallas), Nick DeMarco (NYC), and Luis Miguel Bendaña (Chicago). A solo show by Hannah Hudson, who is pursuing her MFA at UTA, rounds out the series.

NEXT TOPIC with artist Rebecca Carter at CentralTrak — April 4 from 7-9 pm. 800 Exposition Ave  Dallas, TX 75226.

FRIDAY

“forever eve” by Georganne Deen at Brand 10 Art Space – April 5: 5-9 p.m. 3418 West 7th St. Fort Worth, Texas, 76107.

Deen is a Fort Worth native who decamped for Los Angeles some time ago and now lives in The Joshua Tree. Her work has seemed to sop up something of those locals, mixing imagery that is at times surreal, carnivalesque, or evoking early cinematic tropes, fantastically bewildering, suggestive, and riddled with interpersonal angst.

“Groundwork” by Kelly Kroener at RE Gallery + Stuidio – April 5: 6-9 p.m. 1717 Gould St. Dallas, TX 75215.

Kroener’s show opened a few weeks ago. This is a closing reception.

“KITSCH & FLOW” at The  Arts Council of Fort Worth – April 5; 6-9 p.m. 1300 Gendy St., Fort Worth, TX 76107.

Nine Artists” with Jesse Morgan Barnett, Cassandra Emswiler, Thomas Feulmer, Francis Giampietro, Kevin Rubén Jacobs, Michael Mazurek, Francisco Moreno, Arthur Peña, and Michelle Rawlings.  at Blow Up Gallery – April 6: 7-11 p.m. 8060 Park Lane, Suite 126 Dallas, TX 75231

From the exhibition materials, this show sounds like a curatorial project that is shirking curation, or at least a kind of assertive, “creative” curation that seeks to use artists’ work as means to provoke an exterior thematic conceit as organized by the curator. Still, I think the most intriguing aspect of the show is its location:  The kids have been handed the keys to a gallery across from North Park. You’re moving up.

SATURDAY

Artist Talk: Getting to Know You by Terri Thornton at The Reading Room — April 6: 5 p.m. 3715 Parry Ave. Dallas, TX 75226.

Parameters” by Ryan Sarah Murphy, at the Liliana Bloch Gallery – April 6: 5-8 p.m. 2919 Commerce Street, Suite C, Dallas, Tx 75226.

Liliana Bloch used to work at Kirk Hopper. Now she’s struck out on her own, and her stable of artists include Mayra Barraza, Du Chau, Ann Glazer, Letitia Huckaby, Vince Jones, Mona Kasra, and Ryan Scott Murphy. Scott Murphy gets the inaugural exhibition this weekend.
