STRIKES, DIAMONDS, AND FOOD

|

Eric Nadel has eaten a lot of ballpark food during his 27 years as the Texas Rangers’ radio play-by-play guy. When I caught up with him he wasn’t ready to ranch it up for the FrontBurner coffer, but he shared his thoughts on the best ballpark food in the American League.

Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium has a Gates BBQ stand with great turkey and beef sandwiches, served with their incomparable spicy BBQ sauce.U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago has elote, fresh corn off the cob, a very popular dish in ballparks in Mexico. I usually enjoy it with a slice of Connie’s pizza, my favorite Chicago pie. The Coliseum in Oakland has great garlic fries. But I think ours are just as good at Ameriquest Field in Arlington. Tropicana Dome in St. Petersburg has Cuban sandwiches and black beans from the famous Columbia Restaurant. Safeco Field in Seattle has a Health Hut, with four great homemade soups each day, plus an Ivar’s Seafood stand with terrific clam chowder and fried fish. In Boston, the best food is found on carts outside Fenway Park selling fantastic Italian sausages.

What do you Say about that, boys and girl?
