VISITORS X-CLUDED

|

When the Video Software Dealers Association Convention rolled into town in May, not everyone received a friendly Texas welcome. City officials warned that adult video vendors would not be tolerated, threatening prosecution of anyone exhibiting adult videos at the convention. Adult film, of course, is a $2.5 billion industry that comprises almost 13 percent of the total video market. Show sponsors estimate that between 50 and 60 such vendors did not make the trek to Dallas as a result.

And they weren’t the only ones who didn’t come. Only about 9,000 industry insiders showed up at the Dallas Convention Center. Last year’s VSDA Convention, held in more permissive Las Vegas, drew about 14,000.

In 1996, skin will be back in as the show moves to Los Angeles.
