Dallas' 14-day average new case count was cut in half, but DFW passes the 8,000 mark for COVID-19 deaths.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 614 new COVID-19 cases and 31 deaths on Friday and Saturday. The number of deaths last weekend bumped up relative to the week before, but all adults are eligible for the vaccine starting today.


The Dallas Morning News reports that the four-county DFW area (Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, and Denton counties) passed 8,000 total deaths from COVID-19 on Saturday. But the previous two-week average of daily cases in 268, down from 425 the two weeks before that.


Dallas County-s largest ethnic group is Hispanic at over 40 percent, but this group lags behind White residents in vaccination rates. Dallas County is trying to counteract that problem by hosting registration events in underserved areas. Learn more with the Texas Tribune.
