More than 4,000 new COVID-19 cases reported over the weekend in Dallas County, setting a new record on Saturday.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 4,045 cases over the weekend with 10 deaths.


Pfizer and BioNTech sought FDA emergency-use approval on Friday to begin distribution of its COVID-19 vaccine. If the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology companies are successful, limited amounts of people could begin receiving shots as early as next month, The Dallas Morning News reported.


Dallas startup Worlds Inc. developed a new breath screening device that utilizes AI and high-tech sensors for almost instant COVID-19 test results. Testing on Texas A&M students and Lackland Air Force base residents began last week, Dallas Innovates reported.


Texas state health officials said current vaccine distribution methods may be insufficient for COVID-19 vaccines given current case totals and distribution essentials. COVID vaccines will require subzero transportation and storage temperatures that may be challenging to maintain for mass distribution, The Texas Tribune reported.
