Dermatology is the study and practice of keeping the skin healthy and beautiful. For those of us who live in Texas, we have the added danger of damage to the skin from our prolonged hot summer and bright sun, with its ultraviolet rays. Summer is almost here and we continue to worship the sun in the belief that a bronzed skin is beautiful. Unhappily, it only increases the incidence of skin cancers, premature skin aging, wrinkles, spots, and blotches. Fortunately, dermatologists have kept abreast of the times and scientific advances, and are able to advise and successfully treat most skin problems with drugs, skin care products and education of patients, Mohs surgery and laser surgery.

Technology has provided the area of medicine with a wonderful modern tool – the laser. Dermatologists have been eager to incorporate lasers into their practice for the benefit of patients. Lasers make surgical procedures more precise, safer and often less painful. The latest carbon dioxide laser provides a very accurate, safe treatment for facial resurfacing, with results that are softer and more natural than ever. Some doctors only rent lasers now and again as they need them, but it is extremely important to make sure that the doctor selected for any laser procedure owns his own laser, uses it on a regular basis, and is experienced in its use.

Dr. Forrest C. Brown is a board certified dermatologist who specializes in Mohs surgery and facial resurfacing. A graduate of the University of Texas, Dr. Brown received additional training at the University of Missouri Hospital and the United States Navy Hospital in San Diego. He completed fellowship training with Dr. Frederick Mohs at the University of Wisconsin. In practice for over 25 years. Dr. Brown has devoted all of his professional career to dealing with skin problems and finding ways to keep the skin looking and feeling younger, healthier and more beautiful.
