Parkland Joins 17 Other North Texas Hospitals With “Pathway to Excellence” Designation

|

Parkland Health & Hospital System has joined 17 other hospitals in the area as a Pathway to Excellence designee. According to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), which assigns the designations, Parkland is the first Pathway organization in the U.S. of its kind—a public, safety-net system that provides correctional healthcare as part of its services. (Jumping in here: After this went up, the Tarrant County-supported JPS Health Network notified us that it was named a Pathway designee on the same day as Parkland, meaning Parkland isn’t the only public, safety-net system that also provides correctional healthcare to be designated.)

The designations laud hospitals that create an environment for nurses to flourish. The ANCC says reaching Pathway standards has upside for hospitals’ bottom lines, like improving nurse satisfaction, retaining more of the best staff and nursing leaders, and supporting business growth.

“This designation is not easy to attain for a complex system like ours. We have blazed a new trail and one that speaks to the excellence of nursing practice at Parkland,” says Karen Watts, Parkland’s executive vice president and chief nursing officer, in a statement.

According to ANCC’s website, the other Pathway hospitals in North Texas are:
