Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas has received a donation of $1 million from the Dallas-based Eugene McDermott Foundation. According to PPGT, the gift ensures “Texans can continue to rely on its centers for healthcare screenings, exams, and birth control, regardless of their insurance or economic status.”

PPGT said in its latest report that there had been a 41 percent reduction in the number of women accessing birth control in Texas after Planned Parenthood centers were “excluded from the Texas Women’s Health Program.”

Sarah Wheat, a PPGT spokesperson, said the donation will go toward “supporting the current health centers in Texas and healthcare services the organization provides,” in case more challenges arise with rollbacks or funding limitations for women’s healthcare.

Wheat said there are about 12 health centers in Dallas-Fort Worth, including in Addison, Arlington, Cedar Hill, Dallas, Denton, and Mesquite.

“We want to make sure these women are funded,” Wheat told D CEO Healthcare. “Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the country. Most of the women are uninsured and low income; we want to make sure our doors remain open to provide the healthcare these women need.”
