MY PASSION

David Nichols puts his pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else. But when it comes to picking out a tie every morning, his routine is a little different. After all, when you have more than 250 TIES in your collection—all Hermes, no less—you’ve got some narrowing down to do. Nichols, a partner at Mathews Nichols Real Estate Group and senior vice president of Briggs-Freeman Real Estate, is used to dressing to impress, having been in Dallas real estate for 17 years. “I have ties that I have noticed are people’s favorites,” Nichols says. “So when I am going somewhere important I always wear one of those.” For the past 20 years, he’s remained loyal to the Hermes brand for their geometric patterns and whimsical designs. Plus, the high-quality silk ensures a perfect knot every time. His haute hobby not only keeps him looking polished, but also makes birthdays easier for friends and family. Nichols says he doesn’t mind the monotony. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s the perfect gift.”
