The Fla’Mango Tango is mango fried and topped with a citrus glaze and whipped topping with a side of strawberry mango sorbet. It won most creative in this year’s Big Tex Choice Awards. And, of all the sweet foods we’ve had at the Fair through the years, it definitely ranks up there. Lots of burnt ends, cooked well. The cheese didn’t overwhelm the meat. Definitely a meal. The onion rings add to the fullness. The cheese tasted a little too mild for this concept but it was good. Would definitely eat again. And since 2005, Texans have been frying up everything they can in hopes of becoming a finalist or winner in the Big Tex Choice Awards. This year, Ruth’s Stuffed Fried Taco Cone won in the best taste-savory category. We definitely had to try it. It’s an ice cream cone-shaped tortilla shell stuffed with slow-cooked barbacoa, black beans, cilantro lime rice, pico de gallo, queso fresco, and homemade salsa verde.
