At Home With Heather Wiese-Alexander

|

“I’m a minimalist at heart, but I have inherited some traditional things with sentimental value, so the compromise is to have a softer approach to the modern sensibility.”

WHO’S THAT GIRL? She’s the owner of the newly revamped Nest, the popular Snider Plaza gift shop. Once country kitsch, Nest now features hipper, modern brands such as Angela Adams, Cerfagli, and Seletti, and boasts an art gallery on the second floor. THE PAPER CHASE: While working as an art director at Neiman Marcus, she had an epiphany. “I wanted more than a desk and two weeks vacation.” She began experimenting with the lost art of letterpress, and eventually left her job and launched Bell’Invito Couture Stationery. She has since built a national clientele. HOMEBODY: The Alexanders recently renovated their University Park bungalow—a three-year process that essentially took everything down to the studs. They’ve created a clean, sleek modern environment, filled with light.LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION: The Murano glass light fixture in the dining room stops traffic. Wiese-Alexander found it on a buying trip in Milan. “I have since purchased more Murano pieces on trips, so these pieces are available through Nest,” she says.
