Granola 2014-09-01I skip breakfast most days, largely due to being pressed for time. I’m a repeat offender of hitting the snooze button, and I often end up rushing out the door and racing against the clock to make it to work on time.

I developed a reliance on fruit-based smoothies to keep me energized throughout the morning. But being a fan of contrasting flavors and textures, drinking my breakfast became mundane after only a couple of weeks. I began craving crunch and texture. It was on my next shopping trip that I found some delicious granola.

White Rock Granola is made right here in Dallas by local resident Renee Latour. What began as a breakfast offering at a B&B she owned eventually turned into a successful food business.

The flavors sounded delicious: they offer a maple-orange, chocolate, the 4 C’s (a combination of cinnamon, cayenne pepper, cashews, and cranberries), and a fall-inspired flavor called “Oh, Snap.” I purchased the latter flavor, and immediately fell for the rich flavor of molasses, pumpkin seeds, and warm baking spices. It turned out to be the perfect accompaniment for some sautéed apples and vanilla yogurt. When I’m not enjoying it on busy mornings with fruit and milk, I’m sprinkling it over bowls of homemade ice cream.

The granola is perfectly sweet and crisp. I usually drown most granolas in plenty of liquid due to them being too crunchy to chew; there have been times when some bites would have me wondering if I cracked a tooth. That’s not the case with White Rock Granola. It’s the perfect texture for snacking.

You can find their products at both Central Market and Bolsa Mercado in Oak Cliff. They also offer free delivery throughout the area to Dallas residents. You can learn more about them by visiting their website at www.whiterockgranola.com.
