Rockin’ or Rotten Wine

insigniaWe had the pleasure to join our friends Anne and Steve Stodghill last Friday night for a “Rockin’ or Rotten” wine dinner.   This was a great ideas for a dinner party, and one of the most fun – 5 couples brought selections from their wine racks that they had been holding for a while, hoping the selections had aged to their potential, and were indeed “rockin,” or with great disappointment, had past their peak and turned “rotten.”  We took a few, including a past prime 1993 Jarvis Cabernet Sauvignon, and a perfect 2001 Sartori Amarone

The table was set with various selections, a tasty Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon, a bit of a joke Black Box Merlot, and some very unfortunate Bordeaux’s that had well reached their prime, and my favorite for the night, a 2001 Joseph Phelps Insignia, balanced and rich, filled with licorice, cedar, chocolate and spice with a long, delicate and delightful finish.

The beauty of the night was that bottles were opened that we had been holding for that special occasion, and the best occasion is often just getting together with friends, opening that bottle and enjoying, especially before its too late…
