POOR MAN’S JUSTICE

|

Since publication of our November story of ineptitude among court-appointed attorneys practicing in Dallas (“Poor Man’s Justice,” November), good things have been happening for at least one defendant. William Garner, who was sentenced to life in prison as a habitual criminal after he was convicted of attempting to steal four automobile tires, now has a new attorney. Emmet Colvin, regarded by his peers as the dean of Dallas’ criminal defense lawyers, has taken the Garner case and is conducting an investigation in preparation for an appeal. Colvin is providing his services to Garner free of charge.
