Things To Do In Dallas Tonight: Mar. 24

A poetry reading that won't suck.

The poet Kenneth Goldsmith.

Your best bet tonight is by far and away Kenneth Goldsmith at the Reading Room.

The prolific and celebrated poet (he’s the Museum of Modern Art‘s first-ever poet laureate, which is interesting) will do a reading from Seven American Deaths and Disasters, prose poems that recount iconic deaths in American history. It would stand to reason JFK is among these tragedies. Doors are 6 p.m., and the reading begins at 7 p.m.

At SMU’s Caruth Auditorium, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s brass quintet performs with SMU’s Meadows school ensemble-in-residence, the Brazen Brass 5. The DSO’s quintet will perform Previn’s Three Outings for Brass, Holst’s Song Without Words and McKee’s Ride of Fire. After intermission, Brazen Brass 5 joins in for Bach’s Sweet Suite, Tielman Susato’s Renaissance Dances, and maybe a few extras.
