Since at least one radio station is already playing Christmas tunes, I guess it’s okay to mention that the Bass Hall in Fort Worth opens performances of How The Grinch Stole Christmas this evening. Though every Who down in Whoville might despair of this jumping the seasonal gun.
Anyway, we all know the story of the oddly-shaped green creature whose heart is two sizes too small. The Grinch, cranky and grouchy on a regular day, especially hates Christmas and all the cheer that comes with it. This will be a live performance of Dr. Seuss’ beloved classic, featuring sets inspired by his original illustrations and all the characters tasked with helping the Grinch rehab his image.
Meanwhile, closer to home, the Dallas Chamber Symphony has a performance that combines classic symphonic works, such as Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horns, and Strings, with three new scores composed to accompany three funny short films. The concert, called The Comedic Three, will take place at the Dallas City Performance Hall, which really is quite nice. Down the street, there’s Cafe des Artistes or The Greek for a pre-show meal.
