Check out our daily guide to having fun at the State Fair.

Jump if you’d like to learn a little about Jason Janik, the photographer who again this year shared with us his outstanding work from the State Fair of Texas.

When did you first attend the fair, and how many times have you been?

Janik: I moved to Texas from Wisconsin when I was 4, and I haven’t missed a fair since… that’s 34 straight years of corny dogs, funnel cakes and cotton candy!  I think the fair is like Texas’ version of Disney World.

What are you looking for when go to photograph at the fair?

When I shoot, I try to capture both the traditional, iconic images – like families having fun or competitors trying to win prizes – as well as the abstract views that people might never notice on their own.  I like to show both the sincerity and the cheesy goofiness of the fair.  The funny and the scary…

What was your favorite memory from this year’s fair?

My favorite memory this year was watching my three little boys play in all the new cars, just like I used to do as a kid.  The car buildings were like Christmas morning to me.  I could pretend like I wasn’t 6 or 7 years old, but an adult driving fast down a winding road.  They all hop in the cars and pretend to drive on adventures, too.  The car buildings might just be the best bang for your buck, if you have little boys!
