Shakedown Near Vietnamese Community Gardens?

|

A lunch-having FrontBurnervian sends in this account of some recent police activity in East Dallas:

On the way to lunch today, I ran into a HUGE police action of some sort, roughly at the intersection of Fitzhugh and Bryan near the Vietnamese community gardens. Twenty or thirty marked and unmarked cars including a couple of paddy wagons, some were DPD, others Dallas County Sheriff and Constables units. Too many big beefy guys in blue uniforms to count, probably 50 or more. For about a block along Fitzhugh, there was a uniformed officer standing in a row spaced about twenty feet apart in the middle of the street. They made no attempt to stop traffic, just stared at every car that went by. Did not see a single person in handcuffs, only a sea of blue. A handful of cars were in the process of being towed.

I’ve got a call in to police spokesperson Sgt. Gil Cerda. I’ll let you know more when I know more.

Update: Or maybe it was nothing. Sgt. Cerda returned my call, made some calls himself, and said he didn’t know of any events going on at Fitzhugh and Bryan. Awesome crime beat reporter, ain’t I?
