These days it seems our Fair Food Editor can’t write about any restaurant without some sort of turmoil ensuing. Take, for example, two of our 10 best new restaurants. Todd Erickson (also named one of the rising star chefs) left Hector’s on Henderson and Chris Svalesen jumped ship from his Addison joint, Go Fish. Well, folks, it’s happened again. Modo Mio, our Neighborhood Find in the yet-to-hit-the-newsstand May issue, is kaput. Now, I had warned Nancy about an upcoming sale, so ever the diligent reporter, she called owner Brent Stallard for the skinny. Said he: “Maybe there would be a deal.” Asked she: “Will you close?” Replied he: “Absolutely not.” Said she: “I’m going to press with a review of your restaurant and it will be in the May issue.” Said he: “I would never let you send a photographer if I didn’t think I was going to be in business. I have too much respect for you and your magazine.” Well, foodies, it appears that Modo Mio is, in fact, out o’ biz and Mi Cocina will be taking over the space. From the land of Thai, our Fair Food Editor sez: “I am so pissed I could swim home.”
I can’t say that I blame her. So, please, tell your friends they don’t need to call when they see a dead restaurant in the May Taste listings. We already know, thank you very much. Sigh.
