RE: DALLAS CITIZENS COUNCIL MEETING

|

I have some items that Adam didn’t cover. And I have some to amplify that Adam did:

The DCC has the worst logo ever. Again, no web site, so I can’t show you. But it looks like it was designed in 1982. It’s the words “Dallas,” “Citizens,” and “Council” stacked on top of each other, with the “C” of “Citizens” done really big, stabbing into the “D” and the other “C.” Too-skinny font, poor design, feh. They’ve got a 10-foot-tall plywood cutout sign of the logo that always hangs over the head table at the luncheon. The sign is covered in blue glitter (except for the dot above the “i,” which is done in red glitter). It’s a horrible sign. Nothing worse that holding a meeting for 750 people to say, “Dallas rocks hard!” with a homemade sign hanging over your head that says, “Michael’s sells arts and crafts supplies!”

About our tablemates: we sat with Chris Heinbaugh. He didn’t introduce himself when he arrived late. Perhaps he’s shy. Perhaps he remembers this post. Not sure.

I’m told the DCC considered asking Harriet Miers to speak at the luncheon. I’m also told that work on the Coming Soon video didn’t begin in earnest until mid-November. But those two facts are not related.

Groundbreaking for the first Calatrava bridge is Friday. Make a note.

Elaine Agather moment: she said the DCC “didn’t shy away” from the strong-mayor referendum. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s not true. The DCC took a long time before it decided to come out against Blackwood. A long time. Shy much? Then Agather said the voters had spoken, and it looks like we’ve got this council-manager system of government, “So let’s make this the best council-manager form of government in the country!” She yelled it. And got a smattering of applause. To my thinking, this is akin to the folks in Wilmer-Hutchins saying, “Let’s make this the best school board in the country!”

One more thing about Elaine Agather: in the Coming Soon video, she says, “Energy attracts energy.” IJS.

Finally, props to Quin Mathews, who put together a pretty darn good PR piece for the city on what was apparently very short notice.
