After more than six decades of entrepreneurship, John Billingsley began a new chapter as a renewable energy developer when he noted wind farm projects being initiated in his native West Texas – projects that weren’t necessarily in the best interests of the landowners. Billingsley felt he could create a more equitable business structure – and based on this approach, after 12 years, Tri Global Energy is one of America’s top 10 developers of clean, renewable wind and solar power operations with projects in Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Texas is America’s leading producer of wind energy and ranks number two for utility-scale solar power production.

“Sustainability and success are about more than just advancing innovative renewable and clean energy technologies; it’s about environmental stewardship and community investment. I am proud of what our team does every day to further this work,” he says.

Among other things he shared with D CEO editors was the one thing he would like to improve about North Texas. “Dallas is a great place to live and work but, like all major cities, it has a clean air problem,” he said. “I’d like to change that by cleaning up the air we breathe with smart homes and businesses—making the transition toward a net-zero environment. As a community, we would need to develop a system of removing our pollution through a set of achievable goals that everyone in Dallas would get behind in order to make a lasting, sustainable transition.”

Billingsley has recapped his career and the journey of Tri Global Energy in his book, Texas Wind Force, available on Amazon.
