If you’re like me, you start off each New Year armed with ambitions. Most allude to smaller wine consumption, but a good amount involves doing more cool things in Dallas. Last year was my seventh living in the city, yet it was the first year I ever visited the Dallas Arboretum. That’s ludicrous. So in an effort to actually start doing things (mostly of the design/art/shopping ilk), I decided to start rounding up a few events and activities for the week ahead that are A. totally doable and B. will keep me off the couch.
Late Night at the DMA | Friday
Help the DMA kick off another great year with an evening of cocktails, music, and incredible speakers, including Ed Halter, curator of the museum’s International Pop exhibit closing on Sunday. Click here for more details.
The Gypsy Wagon Winter Rummage Sale | Friday – Sunday
Score great discounts (think 50 – 75 percent off) on still-in-season styles from Free People, Show Me Your Mumu (best brand name of all time, I’m calling it), Johnny Was and more on Friday and Saturday. The sale is a solid one, but the main weekend attraction goes down Sunday, when the Gypsy Wagon staff will be selling antique furniture and loads of clothes and home goods from their own (sure-to-be-chic) private collections from 10am – 2pm.
Tea at Taschen | Saturday
One day, I’m going to stop talking about how badly I want to have tea at Taschen’s chic little outpost at The Joule, and actually block out 2:30pm on a Saturday, set aside $59, RSVP to [email protected], and do it already.
The Road to the Big Game Cooking Class at Pirch | Sunday
Any Sunday spent hanging out in Pirch’s sprawling, incredible NorthPark showroom is well spent, but learning to make “championship-worthy” dishes for impending football parties certainly ups the ante. Click here for more details.

Remember how I said waiting seven years to visit the Arboretum was ludicrous? Not visiting the Arboretum in January when admission is only $5 is almost on par with that.
