PRESIDENT’S MEMO

|

Happy New Year from KERA Channel 13, KERA 90.1 and KDTN Channel 2! The beginning of the year is a time for making plans and charting a course for the future. I want to take this opportunity to mention some of the projects on which we are working so that you will have a glimpse of the future:

Now in various stages of production or pre-production by KERA Channel 13 are The Life and Times of LBJ Unbreakable Spirit: The Making of the Meyerson and The Texas Debates. The Life and Times of LBJ, which began production in November, is KERA’s series of three documentaries about Lyndon Johnson’s life and political career that is scheduled to air on the PBS series The American Experience in 1991. Unbreakable Spirit goes behind the scenes at Dallas’ new Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, and The Texas Debates will offer viewers the opportunity to see and hear gubernatorial hopefuls before this spring’s primary elections and next fall’s general election.

This year, KERA 90.1 will provide listeners all over the state with live radio coverage of The Texas Debates. The station will continue its local, in-depth coverage of the area’s news and special events.

KDTN Channel 2 has an environmental special slated to air in April, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the first Earth Day, and Academic Varsity Bowl, which premieres this month, features students from area schools in scholastic competition with one another.

These are just a few highlights, of course; our overall plan is to bring you . 12 solid months of quality public television and radio. This month, I would like to welcome new members of North Texas Public Broadcasting Inc.’s board of directors, who -along with the continuing board members -will help us attain this goal. These new members are Denny Alexander, Dr. Wilkes Berry, Dr. Horace Brock, Joyce Foreman, Ron Haddock, Nancy Hamon, Clark Johnson and Fred Patterson.

Thanks for your support and, again, Happy New Year.

Best wishes, Richard J. Meyer
