In September 1985, we featured a story about a forgotten pocket of poverty just beyond the glittering corridors of downtown Dallas-the unincorporated community of Sand-branch, a powerless settlement without basic city services, including drinkable water. Now comes hope that things in Sand-branch could soon change for the better. Dallas County Judge Dave Fox received word recently from Governor Mark White’s office that a $9,550 grant by the Texas Department of Community Affairs will be used for a water system study, wastewater studies, and drainage and capital improvements for the impoverished community.
